A survey by members of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons showed that liposuction operations rose from 22,041 to 28,921 in Britain last year. Liposuction surgery is mainly carried out on women with a staggering 92% of all operations performed on female patients. Liposuction surgery can usually remove between 10 and 15 pounds of fat, any larger volumes can be very dangerous and are not commonly performed.

Liposuction surgery or lipoplasty is most commonly known as fat modelling or body sculpture. Liposuction surgery is a form of cosmetic surgery which removes fat from different areas of the body. The term liposuction is used because during the procedure, fat is removed using a suction device.
